Inscribed to Grey's Son Romer - an Exciting Account of a Record-Breaking Game-Fishing Trip

Zane Grey. Tales of Tahitian Waters. New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1931. First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Grey to his son, Romer, "To / Romer / from / Dad / [flourish] / Zane Grey" on the front free endpaper and to the right of that, in Grey's hand: "Altadena / Oct 8, 1931". Large octavo. vi, 303, [1, blank] pages. With numerous plates inserted throughout. Publisher's full green cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt, front board with publisher's symbol stamped in blind, dust jacket. Jacket toned, spine and corners chipped, some creased tears to edges of jacket, jacket soiled, previous owner's ink address on rear jacket panel (not Romer Grey), binding a bit rubbed, some small areas of discoloration on rear board, text lightly overopened in a few places. Still, a very good copy in a good jacket. From a private collection in North Carolina.

    More Information:

Romer Grey was one of the family members who accompanied his father, Zane, on this game-fishing trip in Tahitian waters (as recounted in this book). It was on the trip that Zane had caught the first swordfish in Tahitian waters (on record), and, more remarkably, Zane had also caught the largest game fish ever (at the time) - it was a Great Striped Marlin, and it weighed 1,040 pounds.
