Association Copy of Churchill's The Second World War

Winston S. Churchill. The Second World War. London: Cassell & Co. Ltd., [1948-1954]. First British edition, first printings. Association copy, "Inscribed for Commander L. A. Burt by Winston S. Churchill, 1949" in Volume II. Complete in six octavo volumes. 640; 684; 818; 917; 673; 716 pages. Illustrated with maps and diagrams. Bound in full black cloth with gilt spine titles. Top edges stained red. Dust jackets. Mild rubbing to covers and extremities. Dust jackets have a touch of wear to edges and very slight fading to a few spines. Volume I has a neat ownership signature to preliminary. A few instances of very minor foxing and light bumping to page edges. Light shelfwear to bottom edge. Otherwise, a better than very good set.

Commander Leonard Burt CVO, CBE was both an M15 officer during World War II and a British police officer involved in several high-profile cases and investigations. In 1946, Burt was appointed the Head of the Special Branch, in charge of the security of the Royal family and Churchill himself, until his retirement in 1958. While Churchill's classic work on WWII is more of a personal history than a straight historical account, the book is nevertheless considered one of the great lasting works on the subject. From the James and Deborah Boyd Collection.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
