    More Information: William Simpson. The Seat of War in the East. London: Published by Paul & Dominic Colnaghi & Co., 1855-6. First edition. Large folio. 12 pages, description of plates; thirty-nine plates; 12 pages, description of plates; forty plates. Vignette title-pages and seventy-nine colored plates; with tissue guards, most original and printed with a key to their accompanying image. All contents unbound, laid into binding. Half red morocco with red ribbed-morocco grain cloth-covered boards; blind and gilt-stamped five-rule border at edges of morocco; spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. Wear at hinges, edges of binding; abrasions to cloth, a few mended ruptures to front; some scarring to morocco, particularly at rear; large dark stain, smaller ink splatters to rear board; general soiling.  Some wear, fading to endpapers. Tissue inserts extremely edge-worn, rumpled. Some foxing, toning throughout interior. Lacking plate thirty-seven of second series. Good. Near-complete set, First and Second Series, of Simpsons renderings of the Crimean War, from his original water-colors painted at the front. From the Illustrated Book Collection of David Salinas.
