    Description

Tacitus. The Annales of Cornelius Tacitus... London: John Bill, 1622. Fifth edition in one volume. Folio. Original calf binding.

    More Information:

Tacitus. The Annales of Cornelius Tacitus. The Description of Germanie. The End of Nero and Beginning of Galba. Four Bookes of the Histories of Cornelius Tacitus. The Life of Agricola. London: John Bill, 1622. Fifth edition in one volume. Folio. Original calf binding with gilt titles and decorative stamping to the spine inside six raised bands. Heavy wear to the binding, with the spine tail chipped. Remnants of small, inexpert tape reinforcements to the spine ends. Bookplate to front pastedown. Toning to endpapers. Very light scattered foxing. The last two blank leaves are covered with signatures and notations in a contemporary hand, namely that of Katherine and Thomas Cholmondeley, the latter of whom was likely the Thomas Cholmondeley who served as a Member of Parliament for Cheshire from 1670-1679 and 1685-1689. His signature also appears on the title page. A very good copy in a worn binding ripe for minor repair.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
