    Complete Set of Jubinal's Illustrated
    Work on Armor and Vestments

    Michael Louis Achille Jubinal. La Armeria Real Ou Collection Des Principales Pieces du Musée D'Artillerie De Madrid. Paris: Au Bureau Des Anciennes Tapisseries Historiées & Chez Didron, [1837]-1861. Three volumes in one large folio. [6], 39, [1]; [4], 45, [1]; [4], 46, [2] pages. Three lithographed title pages [printed by Lemercier], one hundred twenty five full-page plates (three of which are hand colored in volume three), and numerous text engravings. The plates are by Gaspari Sensi; the frontispieces, ornamental letters, and text cuts are by Victor Sansonetti and engraved by Faxardo. All pages and plates are on tabs. Contemporary red morocco-backed marbled boards, spine banded, title gilt, marbled endpapers. Binding rubbed and scratched, surface leather loss, corners worn with minor loss to boards, small tear at foot of spine; hinges cracking, cellophane tape and small paper lifts on front pastedown, occasional smudges and soiling, few small corner bends; discoloration in inner margin of the second volume's last page; volume three has foxing and some browned pages; otherwise in very good condition.     Complete set of this famous work on the armor and vestments of the Musée D'Artillerie De Madrid. Jubinal (1810-75) also authored important works on tapestries, manuscripts, medieval literature, etc. This work was originally issued in parts (see Colas) and is hard to find complete with the supplement.
