    More Information:

Added color title and ninety-three color-printed, hand-colored, or tinted plates, many heightened with gold or silver. Numerous color-printed initials and woodcut vignettes.

"There are ninety-four plates, showing paintings, miniatures, stained glass, furnishings, glasses, chests, vestments, gold cups, jewellery, etc., etc., mostly on copper, hand-coloured in the most sumptuous way; in addition the text accompanying every item is adorned with elaborate initials and decorations printed in colour from wood blocks, the only other Shaw-Whittingham book in which this occurs. It has a considerable claim to be called the most handsome book produced in the whole of the nineteenth century" (McLean, Victorian Book Design, p. 66).
