    H. St. John Philby. Three Non-Fiction Titles Related to the Middle East. London and New York: Hale and Appleton, 1934-1948. Titles include Harun Al Rashid (first American), Arabian Days (first edition, second impression) and Forty Years in the Wilderness (first edition). Publisher's bindings, dust jackets.     Asad Al-Faqih graduated from high school at the top of his class then studied law at the leading French University in Lebanon, St. Joseph.Upon completing his studies, he received a work offer from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was soon appointed Attache, Vice Consul, then Consul of the Saudi delegation to Baghdad, Iraq.

    In 1945, Asad Al-Faqih was asked to join the Saudi delegation headed byHRH Prince Faisalto the San Francisco convention that created the United Nations.

    In 1946, hewas appointed by His Majesty King Abdul Aziz Al-Saud as the kingdom's firstambassador and minister plenipotentiary to the United States and the United Nations, then Canada, Mexico, and Cuba concurrently. Ambassador Al-Faqih and his family moved to Washington, DC, in 1947.

    In 1955,he became a roving ambassador for the kingdom, serving as minister plenipotentiary and inspector of embassies and foreign missions.

    In 1960, he became Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.After more than 30 years of service, he took early retirement in 1962 to be with his family in Lebanon. He died inApril 1989 in California. He was survived by his wife of 58 years, five daughters and two sons. He was an avid book reader and had a collection of more than 5,000 books in his home library in Lebanon at the time of his death.
