More Information: George Lockhart (1673-1731) was an ardent Jacobite, constantly urging separation of English and Scottish militias, identity, etc., and constantly fleeing imprisionment.  He was the Chevalier's confidential agent and advisor in Scotland from 1718 to 1727.  This work was published anonymously and without its' author's consent, but it is a very valuable work for the history of the Jacobite movement and the political careers and characters of the contemporary Scottish politicians.  Lockhart himself was killed in a duel in December 1731. ESTC t39118. Lowndes 1380.
