    Des[iderius] Erasmus. The Apophthegms of the Ancients: Being an Historical Collection of the Most celebrated, elegant, pithy and prudential Sayings of all the illustrious Personages of Antiquity. Expressing their philosophical, civil, and military Notions; representing their Humour, Genius, Wit and Ammers; exhibiting a choice Variety of curious an improving Anecdotes of their Lives. London: Printed for A. Millar, 1753. Later edition.

    Two twelvemo volumes. i-xi, [1, blank], [1]-321, [1, blank] pages; [1, title page], [1, blank], [1]-300, [9, index], [1, blank] pages. Contemporary half calf over marbled paper covered boards, gilt titles on spines, all edges speckled brown. Marble endpapers. Boards and board edges lightly rubbed, minor abrasions on corners. Text block a touch toned, light dampstain on upper corner and along fore-edge of text block affecting outer margins of pages. Volume II has ink ownership signature on title page. Very good with clean text.
