    Description

The Bible of Free Market Capitalism

Adam Smith. An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. London: A. Strahan, 1786.

Fourth edition. Complete in three octavo volumes. viii, [500]; vi, [524]; [vi], [516] pages. Appendix and Index.

Contemporary half brown calf over marbled boards, spines ruled and lettered in gilt in compartments, all edges marbled. Spines worn and chipped, discoloration to spine of Volume II, some scuffing and glue offset to covers, neat ink inscriptions of two previous owners in each volume. Very good.

This book became the bible for free market capitalism soon after it was originally published in 1776. Its importance to our lives today cannot be overstated.
