Contemporary red paneled morocco, spines extra gilt with floral designs, edges rubbed, two endcaps chipped, all edges gilt.; marbled paper paste-downs, title pages ruled in red; some old notes and underlines; leaf Aaa1 with short tape repaired tear; ownership signature of "Edward Henry Litchfield, 1678" on front free endpaper. of volume II.     "Adam Littleton (1627-1694), Church of England clergyman and philologist...Alongside his active preaching schedule, Littleton maintained his philological research and in 1678 published Linguae Latinae liber dictionarius quadripartitus, a huge Latin dictionary, which was published at least four times by his death, and several more times in the eighteenth century..." {Oxford DNB]. "Dictionarium Latino-Barbarum." has separate title page, with imprint "typis J.C. impensis Johannis Wright, & Richardi Chiswel. MDCLXXVII. [1676]. RLIN describes another issue with a differing collation ESTC r24011 no preference is given but as ours has the more complex collation it is probable that it preceded the other.
