First edition, limited to 100 total copies, of which this is number sixty-eight; no copies were for sale; signed by the Edward, Prince of Wales, several political figures and all contributors. Large quarto (12.5 x 9.5 inches; 320 x 235 mm.). [2, blank], [xvi], [247], [4, blank] pages. Five leaves with ninety signatures of the contributors, portrait frontispiece, sixteen plates of illustrations (including mezzotints, wood engravings, etc.), and thirty-two collotype illustrations inserted throughout (collotypes inserted at the rear). All illustrations with accompanying descriptive tissue guards. Bound by Wood after a design by Charles Rickets in white pigskin, boards decoratively paneled in gilt and blind, spine stamped in blind and gilt, seven raised bands. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Housed in the original cloth clamshell case. Some minor thumbsoiling to binding; bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown. Clamshell case has some rubbing, soiling. About fine. From the James C. Seacrest Collection.Signed by Edward VIII, then Prince of Wales; several politicians, on a leaf inserted near the back opposite Beerbohm's Prime Ministers in My Day, including Ramsay MacDonald, Stanley Baldwin, David Lloyd-George. Georges Clemenceau has also signed (opposite Orpen's depiction of the Paris Peace Conference). Most of the contributors signatures are on the inserted leaves at the front, or on inserted illustrations: these signatures include: Winston S. Churchill, Rudyard Kipling, John Galsworthy, P. G. Wodehouse, G. K. Chesterton, V. Sackville-West, Rebecca West, H. Belloc, Walter de la Mare, Aldous Huxley, Max Beerbohm, W. Heath Robinson, William Nicholson, Gordon Craig, Muirhead Bone, and Clare Leighton, among others. Includes first edition material by many of the contributors.
