Also a Re-publication of the Sentiments of several Authors of Note, in this interesting Subject; particularly an extract of a Treatise, by Granville Sharp. Philadelphia: Joseph Crukshank, 1771. First edition. Twelvemo in sixes. [6, title and contents], iv, 144; 53, [6, index] pages. Full contemporary brown sheep. All edges trimmed. Scuffing and scratching to boards, with wear particularly at joints and spine; slight bumping and edge wear. Browning and spot staining to edges of text block. No free endpapers. Previous ownership signature to title, final leaf and rear pastedown. Uniform toning of pages throughout; general foxing, spot staining; evidence of dog-earing throughout, some thumbsoiling. Very good. First edition of this important anti-slavery work by Benezet, a Quaker writer whose books helped to hasten the end of the African slave trade; with the first American appearance of English abolitionist Granville Sharp's "Representation of the Injustice and Dangerous Tendency of Tolerating Slavery."
