    Description

An Excellent Biography of Napoleon with Lovely Illustrations by Charlet

[Napoleon]. [Nicholas Toussaint Charlet, illustrator]. Paris: Ernest Bourdain, 1842. First edition. Two large octavo volumes. With engraved half-titles, title-pages, inserted engraved frontispieces, two maps, and twenty-seven engraved plates. Many intertextual engravings by Charlet, Vernet and Sandoz. Contemporary brown pebbled morocco backstrips over marbled boards, spines paneled in blind and lettered in gilt in compartments, four raised bands, marbled endleaves. Spines a bit sunned, some rubbing to bindings, hinges just lightly starting (but still solid), one small spot of damage to rear pastedown of volume I, some foxing in text and on plates, one small hole on the final leaf of volume II with minor loss of text. Still, a very good copy of this handsome biography of Napoleon. Vicaire V, p. 75-77. From a private collection from New Orleans.
