Cooke, George Cooke, and other eminent engravers. London: Published by John and Arthur Arch; J. M. Richardson; Rodwell and Martin; Lloyd and Son; and W. B. Cooke, [1826]. First edition. Two volumes, folio. Unpaginated; eighty engravings: forty-four in first volume; thirty-six in second; forty-eight total plates and thirty-two vignettes. Some pages of text interspersed; all illustrations with inserted thin paper guard. Half dark green goat with (later?) red cloth-covered boards; spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. Top edges trimmed and gilt. Housed together in custom brown chemise with spine panel stamped in gilt, in pale blue-gray cloth slipcase. Goat at spines and corners faded to brown; color-correction on backstrip of first volume tinting gilt lettering. Regular wear at edges, hinges, heads and feet of backstrip; scuffing and surface scratches to goat; spot soiling; corners bumped. Top edges of text blocks dust soiled. Foxing, areas of browning throughout interior, fairly extensive; some offsetting onto protective sheets opposite engravings. Minor shelf wear to chemise; light soiling to slipcase. Good.
