    Personal Copy of Clarence von Rosen, Master of the Horse to the King of Sweden

    First edition. Four octavo volumes. viii, [2], 259; viii, [2], 298; viii, 361; 384 pages. Lavishly illustrated with over 400 engravings under tissue guards.

    Original publisher's quarter leather binding with red morocco over red cloth. Titles stamped in gilt on spine; large race horse vignette stamped in gilt on front board of each volume. Top edges gilt. Spine ends of all volumes worn. Boards soiled and lightly scuffed; cloth of Volume IV faded and a slightly different shade than the other three volumes, else in very good condition. Hinges cracked but solid in all volumes. A handsome set in overall very good condition with an important equestrian association.

    Clarence von Rosen's bookplate is mounted to the front pastedown of each volume. Von Rosen (1867-1955) was a Swedish military officer, athlete, and Master of the Horse to the King of Sweden. He is also credited with the re-introduction of Equestrian at Summer Olympics after it had been dropped in 1904.
