More Information: Sigonio (1524-1585) Italian historian and classicist, author of numerous works which were held in high scholarly esteem. He was born at Moderna and held professorships at Venice, Padua, and Bologna. "... he was unquestionably one of the first classical antiquaries of his time, and a man of great judgement as well as learning, very correct and deep in researches, and of most unwearied diligence." [Chalmers]. "In 1555, while still at Venice, he published his folio edition of Livy and his Fasti Consulares, with an ample commentary on the latter in the following year. The last two works were the first in which accurate criticism was applied to the chronology of Roman history." [Sandys]. This volume collects Sigonio's scholarly notes on Livy, Cicero, Hemogenes, etc., along with one of his attacks on Francesco Robortelli with whom he had a long running feud. This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
