    Daniel Henry MacKinnon (1813-1884) served as a lieutenant in the 16th Lancers during the First Afghan War (winning the Ghuznee Medal). He later served in the First Sikh War battles of Budduwal--where his horse was shot out from under him--and Aliwal and Sobraon. He provides a real and realistic contemporary account of events. These volumes deal equally with the wars in Afghanistan and the Punjab.
