    Volume I: Portrait of Rapin, detached and bent with top edge torn, by George Vertue; 33 full-page portraits by Vertue, 3 folding maps (torn & soiled), 7 folding genealogical tables, 18 engraved head-piece vignettes; Volume 2, portrait of Tindal by van der Gucht, 14 full-page portraits by Vertue, folding genealogy of King James, text cuts of coins, 5 engraved vignette head-pieces.

    Published in 84 parts; individual parts may be of various impressions and editions. The final page of vol.2 headed: 'Books printed for John and Paul Knapton'; a variant has 'Now publishing by subscription (this copy)'. The work was extended by Nicholas Tindal in his 'The history of England', vols.3-4, London, 1744-47 (not present here). ESTC t140780 & n64862
