    Description

William Kennedy. Texas: Its Geography, Natural History, and Topography. New York: Benjamin and Young, 1844. 8vo. x, 118 pp. Rebound in tan buckram over boards. Gilt lettering to front board. Front free endpaper separating. Foxing throughout. Very good.

This is a reprint of Book I, Vol. I of Kennedy's Texas: The Rise, Progress, and Prospects of the Republic of Texas, considered the single best work on early Texas. Raines, in his Bibliography of Texas, writes: "This book was pronounced to be the best history of Texas extant. The Texan Congress passed a resolution of thanks to the author. The physical description of Texas [is] the best published up to that time. No historian of Texas has more eloquent paragraphs." This reprinted portion covers the geography and natural features of Texas.
