Presumably signed and inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper recto in pencil, "To Betty / [A woman of determined character] / from / Hope – / [An optimist by name and nature] /  / ["Whoo! I'll bet this / yarn'll make you shore shiver, ‘Mary-Alice-Rebecca'] !!!" Octavo. 276, [12, publisher's catalog] pages. Illustrated with frontispiece by Sidney H. Sime. Publisher's green cloth lettered in black, spine lettered in gilt. Corners just bumped, minor edgewear, head and foot of spine pushed, spine and boards unevenly sunned, minor soiling. Cream endpapers; penciled inscription to front free endpaper recto. Internally generally clean and tight, top and fore-edge trimmed, bottom edge rough trimmed; somewhat foxed chiefly to edges, top edge darkened, minor text block edgewear. Very good.
