    Description

Inscribed and Signed by William Faulkner, and in the Rare Original Dust Jacket

William Faulkner. Sanctuary. New York: Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith, 1931. First edition, first printing. Inscribed and signed by Faulkner to New York chemist A. J. Liebmann, reading: "Dr. A. J. Liebmann / William Faulkner / New York / 17 March 1943" on the half-title page. Octavo. [iv], 380 pages. Publisher's gray cloth over magenta paper boards with magenta spine titles. Magenta and gray patterned endpapers. Top edge stained black. Original dust jacket printed in blue, black, and white. Minor edge wear to the boards. Slight lean to the spine. Jacket spine sunned. One small dark stain to each panel. Mostly trivial wear to the jacket edges, except for minor chipping at the spine ends, affecting the title at the spine head, leaving only the middle letters "NCTU" in "SANCTUARY." A very good copy of a work rarely found signed or in an unrestored example of the original dust jacket. Peterson A8b.
