First edition, limited issue, limited to 100 copies, this being out of series and unnumbered, and signed by the author. Library of Congress copyright deposit copy with surplus duplicate stamp. Octavo. [viii], 383, [1, blank] pages, with signed limitation leaf inserted at front. Publisher's half brownish-red cloth over marbled paper-covered boards, spine ruled and lettered in gilt; top edge gilt. Backstrip faintly dulled with a small discolored area (possibly from a library label); spine ends and board edges very lightly worn. Page edges very lightly soiled; rear hinge just starting.     More Information: On the copyright page, there two rubber stamps: "Copyright Deposit." and "Received / May 13 1942 / Copyright Office," as well as the perforated Library of Congress stamp ("LC"). Copyright Deposit bookplate on the front pastedown with the rubberstamp "Library of Congress / Surplus Duplicate." Laid-in is a typed letter signed by an official of the Library of Congress (on Library of Congress stationery, dated September 29, 1971), stating that he has mailed this book to a professor at the University of South Carolina (the addressee) in exchange for an unnamed item.
