William Faulkner. As I Lay Dying. New York: Jonathan Cape: Harrison Smith, 1930. First edition, first issue (with the initial letter "I" out of line with the rest of the text on page 11). Octavo. Beige endpapers. Original printed dust jacket. Minor dust-soiling to the binding, dust jacket, and text edges. Insignificant pencil marks to the endpapers. Small Ex-Libris bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Trivial edge wear to the jacket, with a few tiny closed tears and a minimum of loss at the spine head and top corners of the jacket. Otherwise, a near fine copy, with a bright, clean textblock. Petersen A7b.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
