William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody: A Copy of Buffalo Bill from Prairies to Palace Inscribed and Autographed to his Longtime Friend Mike Russell. Cody and Russell were old hunting buddies going back to the 1870s. Known as "Deadwood Mike," Russell was the owner of a saloon in that rambunctious Dakota town. On one visit to his friend, Cody procured a group of horses (some say by purchase, others that they were won in a poker game) all with the brand "TE." When he returned to Nebraska Cody registered the brand in his own name, and later renamed a ranch after it.

Cody has inscribed on the fly leaf of the book: "To my old time friend. M. R. Russell-With the Compliments of W. F. Cody 'Buffalo Bill' Jan. 16th 1894." The original cover has been replaced with a custom leather binding titled in gold: "Presentation Copy to Mike R. Russell from W. F. Cody 'Buffalo Bill'."

The pages of the book are in excellent condition. The inscribed fly leaf shows light, even aging, suggesting that the original cover might have been missing for many years, leaving the page exposed.
