Written on the back of a short letter from Wm. H. Hodgson, proprietor of the West Chester, PA newspaper Daily Local News, addressed to Walt Whitman, requesting an autograph. Paper slightly toned, minor soiling, a bit of dampstaining to verso, single fold through "W" and "a" in "Walt," "a" and "l" in "Walt" a bit light, otherwise letter and signature dark and strong, in black ink.

This edition is known as the "Deathbed Edition," owing to the fact that Whitman's failing health necessitated the need to produce the final edition of this title with all his preferred edits for future reprintings.
