    More Information:

Walt Whitman. Leaves of Grass. Boston: Thayer and Eldridge, [circa 1880s]. Third edition, fourth or fifth printing [unauthorized printing by Richard Worthington]. Octavo in sixes. [2, blank], [i]-iv, 5-456, [2, blank] pages. Frontispiece by S. A. Schoff on a white background, with tissue guard. Publisher's deep purplish red cloth. Ex-library, lacking a leaf in the first (possibly half-title) and last gatherings. Binding rubbed, particularly at spine and joints, spine lightly soiled, corners softly bumped. Paste downs bruised from removal of card pockets, front paste down bruising masked by large bookplate. Hinges starting, front hinge strengthened with frontispiece, tissue guard, title-leaf and contents leaf all glued together at gutter, corresponding creases to inner margins of contents leaf. Occasional over-opening. Good, sophisticated for a better overall appearance. Myerson A 2.3.d-e.
