Publisher's blue cloth with black and gold stamping. A sharp copy with light rubbing to the cloth, primarily concentrated at the spine ends and corners. Endpapers have darkened. "Presentation Copy" is blind-stamped on the title page. The scarce dust jacket is fragile, with chipping on the spine ends and corners, and separations along the flap folds and joints. Better than very good condition.

A volume of short stories, most notable for containing Rain. This story introduces the world to Sadie Thompson, Maugham's famous and infamous whore with the heart of gold. Rain was originally published as Miss Thompson in The Smart Set magazine in April of 1921. Enormously popular and profitable for Maugham, Rain was adapted for the stage and, numerous times, for the screen. A desirable edition still in the scarce dust jacket.

    Stott A25b. Morgan, p. 256.

From the Collection of Norman F. Moore.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
