W. Somerset Maugham. The Hero. London: Hutchinson, 1901. First edition. Blue cloth. Possibly a remainder binding not mentioned in Stott. Soiled, rubbed, and cocked; hinges splitting. Rear endpaper missing. Good.

    More Information:

    Octavo. 352 pages.

Publisher's blue cloth with remnants of gold stamping on spine. Possible remainder binding not mentioned in Stott. This copy does have the dropped "g" on page 129. Cloth is soiled and rubbed with fading to the spine. Little of the gold stamping is still remaining and the spine is leaning. Hinges are splitting and the rear endpaper is missing. Overall, a good copy, without the dust jacket, of this scarce and possibly unrecorded edition.

A serious attempt at social commentary by Maugham which proved to be a commercial and critical failure.

Stott A4. Morgan, p. 85. From the Collection of Norman F. Moore.
