    W. Somerset Maugham. Of Human Bondage. London: William Heinemann, 1915. First English edition printed from stereotype plates made from the American first issue type, with the misprint on page 257. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "For Leon Gelbe / W. Somerset Maugham / writes his name / in San Francisco / on March 11, 1936." Octavo. 648 pages. With eighteen pages of advertisements printed on cheaper paper and inserted at the back. Publisher's blue cloth with titles stamped in gilt. Housed in a green cloth chemise and matching slipcase. Boards soiled and rather worn, especially at the extremities. Small London library label affixed at the bottom of the front board. Some offsetting to the preliminary pages, otherwise internally clean and in good condition. Housed in chemise and slipcase. A curiously signed presentation copy inscribed by Maugham in San Francisco twenty-one years after the book's publication. Rothschild, William Somerset Maugham, 85. Toole Stott A21b.
