S. edition, with the title-page reset, misprint on page 257 of "help" for "helped," signed by the author on the front free endpaper. Octavo (7.375 x 4.875 inches; 188 x 123 mm.). [viii], 648 pages. Publisher's dark blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front board lettered and stamped in gilt, rear board with publisher's device stamped in blind. Spine very slightly leaning; backstrip very faintly dulled; joints, spine ends and corners lightly worn; corners softly bumped; occasional minor blemish or surface scuff, small circular stain to rear board. Hinges cracked but secure; text block sagging a little; free endpapers with some faint offsetting. Very good, chemised in a custom slipcase. Toole Scott A21b.
