    More Information:

Novelization of the 1956 MGM film starring Walter Pidgeon, Leslie Nielsen, Anne Francis, and Robby the Robot. "The film's lasting importance as science fiction ... derives in great part from the fact that its story is the stuff of written science fiction of the period -- a fact underscored by W. J. Stuart's novelization, which treats the film's theme in greater depth and with the seriousness it deserves." - Gunn (ed), The New Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, p. 178. The film's plot, an updated version of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," is "very sophisticated for the time -- astonishingly so for a film originally designed for a juvenile audience ... The visual treatment of Forbidden Planet was unsurpassed until 2001: A Space Odyssey, made 12 years later. Despite its flaws, it remains one of the few masterpieces of science fiction cinema." - Clute and Nicholls (eds), The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (1993), p. 437.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
