Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To my highly esteemed / and distinguished friend, / W. T. Barrett, with the / compliments of the author. / W. F. Hynes". Octavo. [1]-208 pages. With five illustrations. Publisher's original maroon cloth lettered in gilt on the front board and spine. Accompanied by a custom slipcase. A very good to fine copy of a true military rarity.

    "From May, 1866, to May, 1869, Hynes served at Fort Caspar, Dakotah Territory and at Fort Laramie." [Graff]. Hynes served in Company E, Second Cavalry and spent most of his time along the Oregon and Bozeman Trails.
