Virginia Woolf. To the Lighthouse. London: The Hogarth Press, 1927. First edition. Octavo (7.25 x 4.8125 inches; 184 x 123). 320 pages (note: pages 1 and 2 are blank). Publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt; top edge stained yellow; in restored original dust jacket designed by Vanessa Bell. Backstrip barely faded with a shallow ripple to the cloth just below the crown and a narrow, faint bit of discoloration down the center; spine ends softly pushed and lightly worn; corners very lightly worn. Top stain with a faint tidemark running the width of the gutter edge and a small splash about a half-inch toward the fore-edge; endpapers faintly discolored from binder's glue. Dust jacket restored along edges and folds, with some peripheral touching up in manuscript ink to the black borders, spine lettering faded but seemingly untouched; panels rubbed and lightly soiled, some minor brownish spotting to the front panel; rear panel with a vertical crease near the flap fold. A near fine copy in an attractive restored dust jacket; housed in a custom clamshell case. Connolly 54 ("...written at the height of [Woolf's] luminous Impressionistic vision."); Kirkpatrick A10.
