    V. O. King [editor]. The Battle of San Jacinto: Viewed from both an American and Mexican Standpoint. Its Details and Incidents as Officially Reported by Major-General Sam. Houston of the Texan Army. Also, an Account of the Action Written by Col. Pedro Delgado, of Gen. Santa Anna's Staff. Austin: Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, 1878. First edition. 12mo. iv, 45 pp. Modern binding, light brown three-quarter morocco over boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Near fine.

This pamphlet compiled by Valentine Overton King, Commissioner of the Texas Department of Insurance, Statistics, and History, was published "on the State's anniversary, to commemorate the greatest event in her history," as he writes in the introduction. Per Streeter 1239, the first part of this item is a reprint of the 1836 A Detailed Account of the Battle of San Jacinto. Streeter points out that "this 1878 edition is desirable as, with the assistance of E. M. Pease and Moses Austin Bryan, the Christian names were inserted where known and errors of spellings in names corrected. The account of the action by Col. Delgado of Santa Anna's staff is probably taken from a translation of Delgado's account in the Texas Almanac for 1870 (p. 41-43). The account had previously appeared in Filisola's Memorias ... de la Guerra de Tejas." A very scarce item in immaculate condition.

    Howes K155. Raines, p. 134 and 182. Streeter 1239.
