First Edition, First Printing of Wizard of Earthsea, Signed by Le Guin

Ursula Le Guin. A Wizard of Earthsea. Berkeley: Parnassus Press, [1968]. First edition, first state (with faint vertical smudge on title-page). Signed by Le Guin in purple ink on half-title. Octavo. 205, [3, blank] pages. In publisher's trade binding of blue-green cloth with embossed illustration on front cover, embossed titles on spine, both in black, rear cover without any markings. In the original trade jacket with "11 up $3.95" at upper corner of front flap and library price clipped from lower corner of front flap, as issued by the publisher. Jacket spine a bit browned and rubbed, some mild toning to jacket edges, faint browning to cloth spine, light bumping to headcap of binding. Despite these minor flaws this is a near fine copy.

    More Information:

The first edition, first state of this book was issued simultaneously in two slightly different bindings: one intended for the trade, and one intended for libraries. As stated, ours is an excellent example of the trade issue.

    Currey, p. 305.
