    William Smith. A New Voyage to Guinea. Describing the Customs... and whatever else is memorable among the Inhabitants. London: Printed for John Nourse, 1744. First edition. Small octavo (7 x 4.25 inches; 178 x 107 mm.). iv, 276, [8, index] pages. Four engraved plates. Later marbled paper-covered binding with contemporary endpapers. All edges trimmed and marbled. Very mild wear at joints and spine ends, even milder at corners and edges. Top edge of text block darkened; small black ink-stain at bottom. Thumbsoiling, spot staining, and areas of discoloration scattered throughout, including a dark semicircle of staining at top of pages 72-73, marginal insect speckling to pages 122-123 and a few small spots of whitish mold at page 148. Tape repair at verso of third plate. Appears to be lacking a plate. First leaf of index over-trimmed at fore-edge with slight loss of text. Very good overall. An account of Smith's commission by the Royal African Company to survey their forts and surrounding environs, an expedition that lasted from August 1726-September 1727. DNB; ESTC T59354.
