Octavo. 163, [4, publisher's ads] pages. Publisher's mauve cloth over beveled boards, stamped in gilt and black. Corners bumped, moderate edgewear, head and foot of spine pushed and worn. Green coated endpapers, price ticket to front free endpaper recto, front hinge starting, bookseller's ticket to rear pastedown. Internally generally clean; gutter overextended at title page, text block toned in margins. Very good.

    [And]: Noble L. Prentis. Southern Letters. Topeka: Geo. W. Martin, 1881. 12mo. 164, [1, review] pages. Printed paper wrappers. Ink stamp ownership to upper wrapper, "Roswell M. Field," corners bumped, heavy edgewear with chips and losses, some dampstaining, toned and soiled. No endpapers, hinges reinforced with cellotape, ink gift inscription to title page. Internally generally clean; moderate edgewear and chipping, text block toned in margins, minor thumbsoiling. Good.

    The Roswell M. Field to whom this book was gifted is likely Roswell M. Field, Jr.; the son of the attorney by the same name who was made famous for his efforts in the Dred Scott case in 1853, and the brother of Eugene Field, a noted children's poet.

Endpapers somewhat toned, ink ownership and price sticker to front free endpapers recto, bookseller's ticket to rear pastedown. Internally generally clean; minor thumbsoiling, text block toned in margins and edges, minor text block edgewear. Very good.

Corners bumped and rubbed, moderate edgewear, head and foot of spine pushed and chipped, somewhat rubbed and worn. Botanical illustration endpapers, endpapers toned, ink ownership to front free endpapers recto. Crude ink ownership to front blank with some offsetting, minor foxing and thumbsoiling, light pencil notations to text, edges toned and somewhat worn. Very good.
