Octavo (8.5 x 5.375 inches; 216 x 138 mm.). viii, 422 pages. Inserted engraved folding map frontispiece, printed on blue paper. Three-quarter calf over yellow cloth; boards ruled in gilt; spine decorated in gilt with five raised bands, black morocco spine label lettered in gilt. All edges trimmed, top edge gilt. Minor wear to spine ends, raised bands, edges, corners and joints of binding. Slight roughening, toning to edges of text block. A few scattered spots of foxing with offsetting from calf onto free endpapers. Small speckles of whitish discoloration to folding map, with some archival repairs to folds. Some light foxing scattered occasionally throughout interior. Very good. Burton's third book, covering the culture, society, and religion of what is now part of present-day Pakistan. Penzer, p. 40.
