    More Information: M[ichel] Adanson. A Voyage to Senegal, the Isle of Goree, and the River Gambia. Translated from the French. London: J. Nourse, 1759. First edition in English. Octavo. [xiv], 337, [1, errata] pages. Folding map frontispiece by Philip Buache dated 1756, initials, head- and tail-pieces. Contemporary full calf; spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands bordered in blind. Original endpapers. All edges trimmed. Rebacked to style with some calf at edges of boards replenished; crackling and splash-staining to original calf; some surface loss to calf at edges. Text block edges darkened, particularly at top. Browning and fairly mild fraying to edges of endpapers; split at joints. A few small tears starting at edges of map folds. Uniform slight toning and thumb-soiling throughout text block. A good binding housing a very good text block. With engraved book-label of Wolfgang A. Herz affixed to front pastedown.
