And of Ethiopia Inferior, vulgarly Angola, being a New and Accurate Account of the Western Maritime Countries of Africa. [London]: [Awnsham and John Churchill], 1732. First English edition. Folio in twos. [2, title-page], [1]-579, 588-668 pages. Fifty engraved plates, forty-five of which are double-page and four folding. Later half calf with marbled paper-covered boards; edges of calf ruled in blind; spine stamped in gilt with red morocco label and six raised bands. Edges of text block trimmed and sprinkled red. Slight bumping to edges and corners of binding. Mild dust soiling to top edge of text block. Very occasional ink spots and faint foxing scattered throughout. A very nearly fine copy. First English-language edition of Barbot's accound of his travels in West Africa, which served as an informational guide for traders and merchants when it first appeared, is today a glimpse into the West African slave trade of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. With an appendix containing further supplemental texts, including An Account of the First Discovery of America, by Christopher Columbus, by Antony de Herrera.
