    First edition. Octavo. xii, 428 pages. Including Ledyard's journal of his voyage with Captain Cook. Round armorial bookplate "Elphinstone/ Carberry Tower" and label of Carberry Tower Library on front pastedown. Holograph ink signature "J.F. Elphinstone" on front board.

     Original cloth backed grey paper covered boards with paper title label on spine. Front board detached. Boards rubbed, soiled and sunned, corners bumped, loss of cloth to backstrip, vertical cracks and creases, paper label cracked and chipped, rear joint cracked; rear hinge starting, small holograph pencil numbers on front pastedown, foxing mostly toward front and back of book, pages lightly cockled, wrinkling along inner margins; otherwise internally in very good condition.

    "The memoirs largely relate to Captain Cook's third voyage, Ledyard's subsequent travels in Russia and Siberia, his appointment to explore in Africa under the auspices of the African Association, and his death in Cairo." - [Hill, 1613].
