Thick folio. Two volumes bound in one. 56, 478, [4], [14], 949, [11] pages. With the engraved frontispiece. The German translation from the Dutch.

Early leather over wooden boards. Brass corners and catchplates, missing both clasps. Binding worn, front joint cracked. Some soiling and minor chipping to the frontispiece. Mild foxing throughout. Overall, a very good, tight, and internally sound copy.

"The largest book printed at the Brotherhood Press. The Ephrata Brethren were three years engaged upon its printing and binding.... The engraved frontispiece, representing the army of the martyrs marching to Heaven is generally missing, as the design was offensive to the Mennonites" (Evans). The largest book produced in colonial America.
