    More Information:

This lot includes: C. and S. Lambert. The Voyage of The "Wanderer" - From the Journals and Letters of C. and S. Lambert. London: Macmillan and Co., 1883. First edition. Large octavo. xx, 335 pages. Edited by Gerald Young. Illustrated by R. T. Pritchett and others. Twenty-three color lithographic plates and several black and white wood engravings, including frontispiece; facsimile of concert program printed in blue. Lacking folding map. Half green leather over marbled paper boards; gilt spine and top edge. Marbled endpapers. Binding worn and scuffed. Pages toned around edges. Free endpapers beginning to split. Neat inked gift inscription on half-title page. Despite the worn binding, the color plates are lovely and vibrant. Generally very good. An account by Mr. and Mrs. Lambert of their circumnavigation of the globe aboard a coal-powered auxiliary steam three-masted topsail schooner. [and:] Frank T. Bullen. The Cruise of the "Cachalot" Round the World After Sperm Whales. London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1898. First edition. Octavo. xx, 379. Illustrations; frontispiece. Fold-out map. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering and a gilt whale to front board. Dark brown endpapers. Binding slightly cocked and a little loose. Spine a bit darkened. In chemise and worn quarter leather slipcase. Very good. This account by the whaling ship's first mate drew praise from Kipling, who, in a letter to the author, writes: "I've never read anything that equals it in its deep-sea wonder and mystery; nor do I think that any book before has so completely covered the whole business of whale-fishing, and at the same time given such real and new sea pictures." [and:] Robert E. Peary. The North Pole, Its Discovery in 1909 Under the Auspices of the Peary Arctic Club. New York: Frederick A. Stokes, 1910. First edition. Large octavo. xxxii, 373 pages. With an Introduction by Theodore Roosevelt, and a Foreword by Gilbert H. Grosvenor. Photographs. Index. Color frontispiece. Folding color map at rear. Rebound in three-quarter brown morocco, with gilt lettering and rules. Top edge gilt. Original blue cloth binding (pictorial front cover, gilt-lettered spine, and plain blue rear cover) are bound in. Leather heavily rubbed along extremities. Head of spine chipped; joints splitting. Binding still sturdy; pages quite bright. A better than good copy that would benefit from professional attention.
