    Description

Thorstein Veblen. INSCRIBED. The Vested Interests and the State of the Industrial Arts. New York: Huebsch, 1919. First edition. Inscribed and signed by Veblen on the front free endpaper: "Notations and typographical / errors checked by / T. B. Veblen." Veblen hand-corrected a handful of pages with notations in the fore-edge margin. Octavo. 183 pages. Publisher's blue cloth with black spine titles and a paper title label affixed to the front cover. Some staining to the boards, with noticeable abrading to the board edges. Spine darkened. Very good. Mildred Bennett's ownership signature and blind-stamp. Bennett was a close associate and (possible lover) of Veblen. An excellent association.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
