    Description

Thomas McGuane. Six Very Entertaining Autograph Letters Signed, and One Endorsed Check. Amusing and chatty correspondence from author Thomas McGuane to Barnaby Conrad, friend and fellow writer who for many years was the director of the Santa Barbara Writer's Conference. This group contains six letters, all signed "Tom": ALS on McGuane's stationery, dated 1993, 2-page letter written on front and back of one sheet. "I've just returned from a book tour in England where a man can hold a book in his hand without causing an angry mob to form." [and:] ALS on Montana State University Foundation letterhead, dated Thanksgiving 2000. 1-page letter. "I celebrated my 60th year by breaking and finishing 3 saddle horses, bought Ibuprofen stock." With transmittal envelope. [and:] ALS on postcard with "McGuane Ranch" printed return address, postmarked 2001. "I forgot to thank you for the portrait of the late great fish, murdered by your companion!" [and:] ALS on MSU Foundation letterhead, dated "April fools 2001. Blurb for a book on animals by Barnaby Conrad, signed "Hope O.K. XOXOX, Tom." [and:] ALS on fax from Conrad soliciting submissions for his book Snoopy's Guide to the Writing Life, for which Conrad issued courtesy $100 checks to the authors. Top half has McGuane's handwritten note: "I used your $100 to start a methamphetamine lab here in McLeod. [...] I have a dream that my crank-lab will supply all of Southwest Montana." Fax is cut in half and is dated 2002. [and:] Check issued to Tom McGuane from Barnaby Conrad, endorsed "Thomas McGuane" on reverse. "Payment" for McGuane's Snoopy essay. Check dated May 9, 2002. [and:] ALS on ruled yellow paper, dated November 1, 2003. One sheet, written on front and back. "I don't know if that girl was a vision or not! I'm just the dummy-writer. I'm having a lot of fun and f--- the consequences. Hope same there."

A very entertaining collection, all in generally very good or better condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
