Description

Thomas Earl [compiler]. The Life, Travels and Opinions of Benjamin Lundy, Including his Journeys to Texas and Mexico; with a Sketch of Cotemporary Events, and a Notice of the Revolution in Hayti. Compiled Under the Direction and on Behalf of His Children. Philadelphia: William D. Parrish, 1847. First edition. 316 pp. Frontispiece. Folding hand-tinted map. Original black cloth over boards. Gilt lettering to spine. Extremities bumped and rubbed. Hinges tender. Small portion at top of spine chipped away. Foxing throughout. Map uniformly darkened. Bookplate to front pastedown. Laid-in is a slip of paper reading: "Herbert McLean Evans Collection Western Americana." Very good.

Benjamin Lundy, a Quaker anti-slavery advocate, visited Texas before the Revolution, with the hopes of creating a colony for free blacks. Per Eberstadt: "A source book embodying first-hand information relative to the Republic, in the earliest stages of its settlement by the Americans. The text is from Lundy's original manuscript, and includes: 'Narrative of a Trip to Texas in 1830; Journey to New Orleans and Texas in 1833; Journey from Brazoria to Austin; Tours of observations through San Antonio, Bexar, Monclova, via the Rio Grande and Santa Rosa; From Laredo to San Patricia and Arkansas Bay; Journey to Matamoros and residence there.'"

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
