    More Information:

Thomas Berger. Crazy in Berlin. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, [1958]. First edition of the author's first novel. Presentation copy, warmly inscribed by Berger to author James Jones and his wife, Gloria, on the front free endpaper: "To my friends Gloria &/Jim Jones with/admiration and/affection/Thomas Berger/Paris 13 Oct 65". In addition to this inscription, there is another one on the following page (the half-title): "Twenty-nine years ago,/the first time I touched/this copy of Crazy in Berlin,/I was a guest in James/Jones's home in Paris,/drinking 50-year old Armagnac/and smoking a Montecristo/NĂºmero Tres, the legendary/pre-Castro cigar, both pro-/vided by my generous host./Thomas Berger/Grand View-on-Hudson/13 August 1994". Octavo. 438 pages. Publisher's full green cloth, spine stamped in black, dust jacket. Jacket spine sunned, jacket worn with several tears and small chips, some edgewear, light thumbsoiling and toning to jacket panels, cloth spine toned, some edgewear to binding, endleaves foxed, text a bit toned, some mild soiling to edge of text block. A very good copy with an incredible association; from one important post-war novelist to another. From the collection of Donald Kaufmann.
