Theodore Roosevelt. The Winning of the West. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1900. Daniel Boone edition, limited issue of the Alleghany edition, limited to 200 copies, of which this is number 175, with a leaf of Roosevelt's original manuscript, containing over 150 words, with numerous revisions, from "The Spread of the English Speaking Peoples," the first chapter in this collection; the text is found on pages 11-12. Additionally inscribed by the author on the recto of the limitation leaf: "To / Joseph G. Darlington [--] / with regards of / Theodore Roosevelt / Jan 31st 1905." Four volumes, octavo (9.875 x 6.625 inches; 250 x 168 mm.). Illustrated with frontispieces, five folding maps (one inserted at the rear of all volumes except Volume II, which has two), and numerous illustrated plates inserted throughout, captioned tissue guards. Publisher's dark green half-morocco, spines in four compartments with three raised bands, lettered and ruled in gilt; marbled paper-covered boards; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; marbled endpapers; ribbon markers. General light shelfwear, particularly to the spine ends and corners; backstrips and board edges faded to brown with touch of rubbing to the raised bands and few minor scuffs; marbled paper worn and flaking at the edges; corners softly bumped. Front hinge of the first volume starting; endpapers and text foxed throughout. Very good. Howes R-433.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
