    Theodore Roosevelt's Own Copy of the Signed Limited Edition of Outdoor Pastimes of an American Hunter - Copy Number 1

    Theodore Roosevelt. Outdoor Pastimes of an American Hunter. Illustrated. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1905. First edition, one of 260 copies signed by Roosevelt (during his presidency). Roosevelt's own copy, (this is copy number 1), and with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Octavo. [xii], 369, [1, colophon], [2, blank] pages. With signed limitation page, portrait frontispiece, and forty-eight photographic plates inserted throughout. Complete. Frontispiece and all plates with descriptive tissue guards. Publisher's half brown pigskin over tan paper boards, spine stamped and lettered in dark brown. Spine worn with short tears at head- and tailcaps, binding worn and lightly soiled, hinges cracked, very minor marginal toning and occasional soiling in text. A good copy, with the best provenance possible. Published while Roosevelt was President, this book contains accounts of his hunting trips in the West, his impressions of and experiences in Yellowstone Park, and a chapter on books about big game hunting. This book was originally a gift from Mrs. Roosevelt, to Andrew M. Williams, II, the husband of her granddaughter, Edith Roosevelt Derby Williams. It was then given by him to his eldest son, Andrew M. Williams, III (signed note by Andrew M. Williams, II, addressed to his son, is enclosed).
